Sizes/Gauge: Toddler, 5 sts = 1” Keyplate 2 or Mid Gauge 6 or Bulky 3.
Kids: 4.5 sts = 1” Keyplate 2.5 or Midgauge 7 or Bulky 5.
Adult: 4 sts = 1” Keyplate 3 or Midgauge 8 or Bulky 7
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn: 75(120,150)yds orange, 25(35,50) yds

- With
orange, ewrap cast on 73 sts. Row counter at zeros. Knit 6 rows.

Starting at left, transfer the 4th and then every 6th st to
adjacent needle. Place empty needles in NWP.
- Knit 24 rows.
- Bring forward,
needles previously put in NWP and transfer all sts so there are no empty
needles between sts. (61 sts) Knit row.
- Starting at one
end, transfer every 5th st to adjacent needle. Place empty needles in
NWP. Knit row.
- Starting at one
end, transfer every 4th st to adjacent needle. Place empty needles in
NWP. Knit row.
- Starting at one
end, transfer every 3rd st to adjacent needle. Place emtpy needles in NWP.
Knit row.
- Starting at one
end, transfer every 2nd st to adjacent needle. Place empty needles in
NWP. Knit row.
- Repeat step 8
then repeat step 7. 9 sts remain.
- Change to
green yarn and work
I-cord over rest of sts as follows knitting manually without carriage:
- Push
stitches to HP.

Bring yarn under needles and back up to the previous side and across open
needle hooks.

Holding yarn
fairly snug, push back each needle until it knits.

Working in the
same direction,
(not back and
forth as you normally would knit), knit I-cord for 12 rows. (After
a few rows you will see the I-cord forming).
Bind off and leave a tail
for sewing.
- Leaf:
(Use smaller hem or claw weights if you have them).
10. With green yarn, ewrap cast on 5 sts. Move sts behind latches. Add
weight and Knit 2 rows.
11. Increase 1 st each side every other row until you have 13 stitches.
12. Knit 2 rows.
13. Knit 2 rows, binding off 3 sts at beginning of each row.
14. Dec 1 st each end of knitting every other row until 1 st remains.
Cut yarn and pull through last loop. Remove weight.
- Sew side seam. Fold
stem over and secure to hat as shown in picture. Sew leaf to hat.
