Li'l Purse o' felt

Finished Measurements: Approximately 6 x 5. ½

Worsted weight, 100% wool (not superwash): 125 yards

Bond Keyplate 4.

 

1.  Ewrap cast on 26 sts, centered on machine using wool yarn.

2.. Hang hem as usual.  Set row counter to zeros.

3.  Knit 120 rows.

Begin Flap:( When decreasing, move sts so that there are no spaces between).

4.  Working from each end: Transfer 5th st on top of 6th st; 4th st onto 5th st; 2nd and 3rd st together to  4th needle; 1st st to 3rd needle.  Knit row.

5.  Knit 2 rows.

6.  Repeat steps 4 and 5.

7.  Begin at center, transfer sts towards center with 2 sts on every other needle. Knit row

8.  Knit 1 row.

9.  Begin at center, transfer sts towards center so there are 2 sts on every needle. Knit row.

10. Knit 1 row.

11. Bind off firmly.   Remove hem.

12. Fold up ewrapped cast on hem approximately 9” and sew side seams.

 

Strap

The strap shown was crocheted by making a chain 45” long and working 1 row of single crochet along chain with size H hook and then sewing the strap to the outside of the purse.

You can also braid, or icord knit a strap or you can felt the bag and then sew or glue on a strap of purchased cord.

Felting:

 Place the purse in a pillowcase or lingerie bag and tie or zip shut.

 Set washer to low wash and hot water.  Add just a drop of dishwashing liquid.

 Add pillowcase and wash for 1 cycle.  Before water drains, stop machine and check bag.

 Reset washer and continue to wash until satisfied with felting.

 Set washer to drain and spin.

 Stretch and pull felted piece until it is square and even. 

 Lay flat to dry.

 Sew on button and strap if necessary.

 Cut a slit in flap slightly smaller than button for buttonhole.

 It’s done!  Wasn’t that easy?
