Heart Shaped Pillow

Materials:  150 yards worsted weight yarn

Gauge: 4 sts = 1” keyplate 3.5 or tension 6 on midgauge or 5 on bulky machine

Stuffing for pillow.

Note: Gauge is not important.  Thicker yarn will make a larger heart, thinner yarn will make a smaller heart.  Pillow shown was knit with Red Heart “Plush” yarn at 4 sts to the inch and measures:  “16 x 13“.

 

  1. With waste yarn, open cast on 29 sts.
  2. Knit a few rows, ending with carriage on LEFT.
  3. Change to main color yarn and knit 3 rows.
  4. Knit 3 rows, decreasing 1 st at beg of each row.
  5. Knit 1 row, decreasing 1 st at beg and end of row.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5.
  7. Knit 1 row, binding off 2 sts at beginning of row.
  8. Knit 2 rows, binding off  3 sts at beg of each row.  11 sts remain.
  9. Knit 1 row.  B.O.
  10. Mark as left side.
  11. Repeat steps 1 through 9 ending with carriage on RIGHT in step 2.
  12. Bring forward 56 needles and starting on left, hang left side at the first row above waste yarn, wrong side facing.
  13. Repeat with other side, hanging next to first section.
  14. With main color, Knit 10 rows.
  15. Knit 1 row, decreasing 1 st each side.
  16. Knit 3 rows.
  17. Knit 1 row, decreasing 1 st each side.
  18. Knit 2 rows.
  19. Repeat steps 17 and 18 once.
  20. Dec 1 st each side on next row and every other row, 5 times.
  21. B.O. 2 sts at beg on next row.
  22. Repeat step 21 until no stitches remain.
  23. Repeat steps 1 through 22 for second side.  Sew together and stuff pillow.
