It's Pumpkin Time

Size: Approximately 6" across
Gauge: 4 sts = 1"/Keyplate 3 (Gauge not important)
Materials: 75 yds orange/ 25 yds green worsted weight yarn
Small amount of stuffing.
Leave  10" tail of yarn at all beginnings and endings of yarn changes.
1.  Open cast on with waste yarn 54 sts.  Knit 4 rows.
2. Change to orange yarn, row counter at zeros, k 2 rows.
3. Transfer every 6th st to adjacent needle and place empty needle in
    non working position.
4. Knit to row counter 36.
5. Cut orange yarn and knit 4 rows with waste yarn.
6. Remove knitting from machine and remove hem.
Stem: (Use smaller hem or claw weights if you have them).
7. Ewrap cast on 10 sts with green yarn.  Move sts behind latches.
8. Add weight and knit 10 rows.
9. Remove green yarn and knit 4 rows with waste yarn.  Repeat step 6.
Leaf: (Use smaller hem or claw weights if you have them).
10. With green yarn, ewrap cast on 5 sts.  Move sts behind latches. Add weight and  Knit 2 rows.
11. Increase 1 st each side every other row until you have 15 stitches.
12. Knit 4 rows.
13. Knit 2 rows, binding off 3 sts at beginning of each row.
14. Dec 1 st each end of knitting every other row until 1 st remains.  Cut yarn and pull through last loop. Remove weight.
Finishing: (Use 10" tail ends and tapestry needle for sewing).
Thread through sts of top of pumpkin, removing waste yarn.  Gather top of pumpkin tightly and knot ends.
Sew side seam together and stuff pumpkin.  Gather bottom of pumpkin as for top and secure. 
Sew side of stem (ewrap edge is top of stem) and then thread through top of pumpkin and out bottom.
Pull on stem thread to flatten pumpkin to desired shape.  Secure ends.  Sew leaf to top of pumpkin.
