Easiest Hat (shown with matching mittens from our easy mitten pattern).

Sizes: Kids,Adult
Materials: 150(190)yards heavy worsted yarn
Gauge: 4 sts and 6 rows = 1"
Keyplate 2.5 and 3 or appropriate tension

1. E-wrap cast on 80(88) needles.*  Row counter at zeros.
2. Using keyplate 2.5 or smaller tension, knit 10(12)rows.
3. Change to keyplate 3 or tension for gauge.
4. Knit to row counter 50(62)rows.  Bind off stitches.
5. Sew back seam. 
6. Sew top of hat closed, with seam centered at back.
7. Bring points of top of hat together and stitch together.
8. Weave in ends. 

Finishing Suggestions:
Pompom:
Cut 2 circles from cardboard, 3" across.
Cut 1" hole in center of cardboard circles.
Holding circles together, wind yarn through center and around outer edge of circle until center is filled in.
Holding circle in middle with thumb and finger, cut between circles at outer edge.
Cut length of yarn and wind between cardboards.
Tighten yarn and knot.
Remove cardboards by cutting or pulling out.
Trim pompom and fluff.
Secure to top of hat.

Tie top:
Make 2 ties 5" long, by braiding or i-cord knitting.
Attach to each point in hat.
Make bow.

Button Top:
Sew a novelty button to top of hat through ties holding points and into top of hat.
*IF the first e-wrap row is difficult to knit with the carriage, manually knit the row by laying yarn across open hooks and pushing back each needle starting with last ewrapped stitch.
